Top tips for an organised workspace

Your office or workspace is your personal area. No matter what people say, the way you value (or devalue) this space, has a lot to do with the kind of work you end up producing. Having a clean and uncluttered space allows for ideas to flow and peace to reign in the office!
HERE’S HOW TO ORGANISE YOUR WORKSPACE SO YOU GET THE MOST OUT OF IT
1. DE-CLUTTER YOUR SPACE
The first step to knowing how to organise your space is knowing what needs to stay and what needs to go. It’s pointless organising items into specific areas if they are broken, old, or unimportant. Go through your piles of documents and throw away the pages that you no longer need. Throw away stationery that no longer works or décor pieces that are gathering dust. Now take stock of what you have left and what you need.
2. MAKE USE OF STORAGE BOXES AND CONTAINERS
Place documents that you won’t need for a while into a labelled box, under your desk or inside a drawer where it won’t take up space. Place important documents in an A4 document organizer, and make use of the different sections to keep track of them. Use smaller storage containers for extra stationery or items you need but don’t use on a daily basis.
3. DON’T SHY AWAY FROM LABELLING
Sticky notes and adhesive labels are the perfect helping hand in an office environment! Put to-dos for the day on the wall next to you, or right next to your computer as a reminder of what you need to accomplish. Labels can also be placed on boxes and document organizers to remind you of what’s inside. No one wants to waste time searching for something that could’ve been found quickly and easily with a label.
4. INVEST IN A DESK DRAWER SET IF YOU DON’T ALREADY HAVE ONE
These little portable drawers are perfect for storing the office stationery you actually use and need. Keep the most important items in the top drawer, and the occasionally used items in the other drawers. Any other fancy stationery items that are left behind? Offer them to other staff members who might actually use them, or give them away.
5. ALWAYS EMPTY THE BIN
Crumpled up papers and pieces of plastic pile up quickly during the course of a working day. Make sure you empty the bin at the end of everyday so you don’t end up being a person with balls of paper around the bin or on your desk. This will just cause frustration and clutter to build.
You don’t have to implement all of these tips, or implement them all at once. But the more you do to create a neater work environment, the happier you’ll be at work.
